These videos are great for the following States: Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico and New York Nurse Aide exams.  The Competency Examination for these states consists of two tests, a Written Test and a performance-based Clinical Skills Test. You must pass both the Written and Clinical Skills tests within two years and three attempts.

Clinical Skills Exam


The following is a list of 
21 clinical skills that you may be asked to perform during the Practical test. Indirect care and Hand washing is included in each exam. A group of three skills will be performed and evaluated by a Registered Nurse whom is employed by Prometric, Inc. This portion of the exam is allowed only 35 minutes.

18. Range of Motion – Lower Extremity
19. Range of Motion – Upper Extremity

21. Hand washing

Indirect Care includes behaviors that are part of every skill tested for the Clinical Skills Test. Indirect Care includes communication, resident rights, safety, comfort and Standard Precautions (infection control). Indirect Care is rated during your performance of each skill.

II. Promotion of Safety [8 questions, 16%]
   A. Potential hazards in the resident environment
   B. Common injuries and related risk factors
   C. Providing a safe and comfortable environment
   D. Fire prevention and safety
   E. Infection control
   F. Emergencies

III. Promotion of Function and Health of Residents [12 questions, 24%]
   A. Personal care skills
   B. Health maintenance and restoration
   C. Age-related changes
   D. Psychosocial needs

IV. Basic Nursing Care provided by the Nursing Assistant [13 questions, 26%]
   A. Routine, chronic, non-life threatening situations
   B. Acute Emergency Situations: observing, reporting and responding

V. Specific Care Provided for Residents with Changes in Health [8 questions, 16 %]
  A. Physical problems
  B. Psychological problems
  C. Care of the dying resident
